Recently we saw some fireworks, or rather we saw the clouds illuminated by fireworks. It reminded me of years ago when I went to visit Dave and Suzie Perry in Portland Maine. It was a fourth of July celebration, and of course, in Maine that means fog, and lots of it. We sat there in Portland with the crowds as we looked across what we thought was the water, you could not actually see it. To be honest, you could barely see your nose the fog was so thick...
I sat with the crowds as we watched to fog glow from one color to the next. Being true Downeasters, nothing like a little fog was going to get in the way of their celebration. So, we all watched as the fog turned colors, red, green, blue. The people ohhhed and ahhed at all the right moments, as if we really could see those fireworks, buried somewhere up there in that pea soup dense fog. The finale was a pallette of colored fog. And then there was nothing....
After a while in the pitch darkness we knew the fireworks must have ended. We were all quite satisfied that indeed, this years job was a corkah, and wait 'til next year.
We drove slowly home in the dense fog.
