Yesterday I had the chance to get out for a daysail with my buddy, Barry DeSt. Croix. It had been a while since we had a chance to catch up.
It was a beautiful August day, with the wind blowing out of the west, a real treat when I'm headed for Woods Hole, becasue it is a reach the whole way. We cleared the mooring area, pulled out the 120% and started just sailing across the bay. I was surprised, we passed two sailboats as we pulled out into Buzzards Bay. We were moving right along, trolling a bluefish lure behind us. We were doing 7 knots at times.
We dropped sail as we approached Penzance Point, and motored into Hadleys. It was quite crowded, but we made our way into the inner harbor, and found enough room to drop anchor. The nice thing about my Cape Dory 26 is that it only draws 3.5 feet, so I can tuck into some pretty shallow areas. We did, and soon were swimming off the boat. Water was great! We had some lunch, then it got to be 4:00 and time to head back to Little Bay. A real treat, the wind had shifted to the SSW so we were really reaching on the way home. Just a beautiful sail with a good friend. We dropped the jib off of the town ramp, and sailed downwind into Little Bay, caught the mooring just as the boat sailed up into the wind. A perfect day!
